ANNUAL STAKEHOLDER WORKSHOP - 26th February 2007


          As per legal covenant with the World Bank, ‘ Tamil Nadu Road Sector shall cause HD to conduct an annual road sector workshop to obtain feedback from major stakeholders, including representatives of relevant departments of Tamil Nadu, road user and transport associations, relevant NGOs, business and agricultural interests, and the road construction industry, on progress achieved during the preceding year with service delivery improvements and sector reform, and communicate annually to the Bank the results of such forum.’

          In accordance with the above and to have an useful interaction with the stakeholders, the second annual stakeholders workshop was held at Hotel Residency Towers, T. Nagar, Chennai on 26.02.2007. The workshop details are annexed.

          The main objective of the Workshop was “Consultation process” among the road users in respect of levels of service, road side amenities, new road work priorities etc. to achieve a comprehensive planned road network system in the state of the Tamil Nadu. The purpose of the stakeholder participation in the workshop is to give an opportunity to the general public as well as to the road users and other stakeholders to interact with the Highways Department through consultation on the subject of improvement to the road network and roadside amenities apart from sharing of information on the activities of the department. The feedback will be used as inputs for suitably incorporating in the Highways Master Plan, Road Safety and Congestion Management Plan.
