INTRODUCTION
The Government of Tamil Nadu has accorded administrative sanction for Rs.300 crore for widening and improvements of the following two roads in G.O.Ms.No.205 Highways (HW2) dated 05.10.2006 to cater the needs of industries situated in an around the Oragadam Industrial Park in Kancheepuram district.
- Singaperumalkoil to Sriperumpudur road Km 0/0-24/6 (SH-57) which connects National Highways -45 and National Highways - 4.
- Vandalur to Wallajabad road Km 30/4-63/8 (SH-48) which connects National Highways – 45 and State Highways – 58.
The Government sanction includes :-
- For improvement of roads Rs.207.83 crore.
- Construction of Grade Separator Rs. 17. 00 crore
- Land acquisition Rs .74. 30 crore
- Charges for consultancy Rs. 0.87 crore

This project includes 3 Km service road on four legs of Oragadam junction. These two roads were split into four packages for speedy execution of work as follows:
Package-I - Improvements ( 4 laning) to Singaperumalkoil-Sriperumpudur road Km 0/0-12/6 - Estimate amount Rs.49.22 crore (raising of embankment upto 2 mtr height and widening from single lane to 4 lane)
Package-II - Improvements ( 4 laning) to Singaperumalkoil-Sriperumpudur road Km 12/6-24/6 –– Estimate amount Rs.50.47 crore (raising of embankment upto 2 mtr height and widening from single lane to 4 lane)
Package-III - Improvements ( 4 laning) to Vandalur – Wallajabad road Km 30/4-47/0 – Estimate amount Rs.40.15 crore (widening from 2 lane to 4 lane)
Package-IV - Improvements ( 4 laning) to Vandalur – Wallajabad road
Km 47/0-63/8 – Estimate amount Rs.41.87 crore (widening from 2 lane to
4 lane)
All the four packages were entrusted to contractors on 30.06.2008 and now all the works are in progress.
Construction of Grade Separator at Km 47/4 of Vandalur – Wallajabad road at Oragadam junction – Estimate Rs.23.00 crore. This work has been entrusted to the contractor on 15.03.2010.
LAND ACQUISITION
Land is to be acquired to the extent of 88.54 Hectares involving 43 villages for widening the road. 15(2) Notification have been issued for 42 villages. Proposals for 15 (1) for 38 villages have been issued..
PROPOSED RIGHT OF WAY
Land acquisition has been proposed for 60m Right of Way i.e. 30mtr on either side in Singaperumalkoil – Sriperumpudur road and for 40m Right of Way i.e 20mtr on either side in Vandalur – Wallajabad road.
The provision for four laning is as follows:
Upto Bitumen Concrete for four laning = 14.50 m (2x7.25m)
Centre Median = 1.20 m
Earthern Shoulder on either side = 4.00 m (2x2.00m)

FOREST LAND
In Package-I – Singaperumalkoil-Sriperumpudur road - Forest land involved for a length of 3.5 Km (14.16 Hectares)
In Package-III –Vandalur – Wallajabad road - Forest land involved for a length of 1.35 Km ( 7.12 Hectares)
TNRIDC has applied for clearance from the Forest Department for taking possession during 10/2007. But the permission is still pending with DFO, Kancheepuram for want of compensatory land for which TNRIDC is pursuing the matter with the Government.
Progress and stage of works as on 15.04.2011
In Package – I & II Singaperumalkoil-Sriperumpudur road Km 0/0-24/6, out of 15 Km of available work front in the road barring LA portion of 5.65 Km and forest portion of 3.57 Km, 13.30 length of road has been completed. Balance works will be completed before 30.09.2011.
In Packages-III & IV Vandalur – Wallajabad road Km 30/4-63/8, out of 27.50 Km available work front in the road barring LA portion of 4.50 Km and forest portion of 1.40 Km, 23.00 Km of has been completed. The balance works will be completed before 30.09.2011.
In Oragadam junction, a Grade Separator at Km 47/4 of Vandalur – Wallajabad road has been started during April 2010 and the work is in progress and this will be completed before 30.09.2011.
The expenditure has been incurred to the tune of Rs.271.00 crore for this project as follows:

Further, on completion of the LA process, the Package – II i.e from Oragadam to Sriperumpudur Km 12/6-24/6 will be taken up for 6 laning for which the Government has already sanctioned for Rs.86.65 crore .
