PROJECT I

 

The Project I wing (formerly Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project) was  formed in October 1988, exclusively for carrying out the works under TRAMP (Traffic and Transport Management Programme) component of TNUDP with Loan assistance from World Bank.

 

In respect of TRAMP component, all the works have been completed except Northern Sector of Inner Ring Road and Southern Sector of Inner Ring Road, which were executed with loan assistance from World Bank till 30.9.97. After the closure of World Bank loan assistance, these two works were executed with state funds till 31.3.2000. In the year 2000 - 2001, HUDCO loan assistance to a tune of Rs. 6500.00 lakhs was sanctioned and a part of amount of Rs.2445.00 lakhs has been drawn from HUDCO and the expenditure was met out from the loan amount.

 

Now this wing is carrying out replacement of existing busy level crossing as ROB / RUB works all over Tamil Nadu.  Moreover, Phase I of Madurai Radial Roads Scheme at a cost of Rs.112.00 crores is proposed to be carriedout availing HUDCO loan.

 

ON GOING  WORKS :

 

A. ROAD WORKS:

 

For the two spill over road works viz (i) Southern Sector of Inner Ring Road and (ii) Northern Sector of Inner Ring Road, the total value of spill over works is Rs 4051.23 lakhs as on 1.5.2002. Majority of spill over works comprises L.A cost for Southern Sector of Inner Ring Roads  and formation of Phase II of this road (Km 0/0 - 5/0) and formation of small stretches of Northern Sector of  Inner Ring Road

 

The future expenditure will met out from the loan sanctioned by HUDCO. The approach road for Tillaiganga Nagar Road Under Bridge is in progress. 

 

The Northern Sector of Inner Ring Road is also in good progress except a small portion for which L.A. is to be made. Action is being taken to acquire the lands required. 

 

B. ROB / RUB WORKS:

 

Six  ROB / RUB spill over works are at various stages of progress. Of these four works in and around Trichy are in advance stages of progress and are excepted to be completed on or before 31.12.2002. 

At Chennai, the ROB at MIT Gate is in good progress and St. Thomas Mount RUB work has been completed.

 

 

PROPOSAL FOR ROB / RUB WORKS TO BE TAKEN UP:

 

In the ROB / RUB scheme (Cost shared by Railways and Highways) 36 works were sanctioned in 2000 - 2001 in G.O.Ms. 176, Highways (HQ2) Department dated 5-10-2000 for Rs.513.92 crores, under HUDCO loan assistance.

 

Out of these works, estimates have been technically sanctioned for sixteen  works and estimate is under preparation for 9 works. The GAD is under finalisation for 8 works. For the remaining three works, the alignment is to be finalised. Work for Morappur (L.C. No.100) is already awarded and the work has been started.  Tender evaluation for Vengamedu (L.C. No.37) is under process.  Tenders for 14 works have already been fixed on dates 27-6-2002 (3 works), 5-7-2002 (7 works) and 12-7-2002 (4 works).

 

MADURAI RADIAL ROADS SCHEME

 

In G.O. Ms. No. 5 Highways (HS1) Department, dated 10.1.2001 the Government have sanctioned Madurai Radial Roads scheme comprising of 12 Road Works and 1 Road Over Bridge across Rail crossing in Ellis Nagar and a High Level Bridge across Vaigai river near Sakkudi Village at a total cost of Rs. 112.00 crores. This project will be carried out availing  Loan assistance from HUDCO. These works are to be executed in and around Madurai city.

The estimate for the 12 road works have been technically sanctioned by Chief Engineer (Project I) and tenders fixed on 27-6-2002.  Sakudi Bridge (High Level bridge across Vaigai River) is technically sanctioned for Rs.7.00 crores by the Chief Engineer (Highways) Designs and Investigation.  Tender for this bridge is fixed on 27-6-2002.  Preparation of detailed estimate for the Ellis Nagar ROB also is in an advanced stage at the office of the Chief Engineer (Highways) Design and Investigation.
