During the 6 years from 1999 to 2005,
47 ROB/RUB Works were sanctioned under RWP.
-
Upto 2006, 9 Bridges of value
Rs. 119.80 crores have been completed.

After 2006, 19 bridges of value Rs.
234.35 crores have been completed.
-
Out of Balance 19 works, 15 works are
under progress and estimates for 4 bridges are being
prepared.

From 2006 to 2009,
Construction of 90 ROB/ RUB have been sanctioned under RWP.

During the year
2006-2007, 25 bridge works of value Rs. 409.65 crores have
been sanctioned. Out of these, 2 works are in progress and
Detailed Project Reports prepared by the consultants are
being proof checked by the Highways Department for the
balance works and tender will be called for shortly.

During the year
2007-2008, 42 bridge works of value Rs. 876.70 crores have
been sanctioned, for which Detailed Project Reports are
being prepared by the consultants.

During the year
2008-2009, 23 bridge works of value Rs.560.94 crores have
been sanctioned. Out of these, 18 works are in
investigation/ preparation of General Arrangement Drawing
stage. 4 works are going to be executed by the National
Highways Wing and 1 work is to be taken up by the Chennai
Corporation.
A budget provision of
Rs.442.51 crores has been made for the year 2009-2010 for
the above projects.
Construction of Roads/
River Bridges in Cauvery Delta areas with NABARD
assistance:
-
Under this Scheme,
the Government have accorded Rs. 204.73 crores for
construction of 55 River Bridges, 4 Major Bridges and
improvement of 139 Sugarcane Roads for a length of 417 km.
Out of these 43 River Bridges,137 roads of length 410 km
have been completed. 2 Bridge Works and 1 Road Work have
been deleted. An expenditure of Rs.5.00 Crores has been
incurred in the year 2008-2009.
In the year 2009-2010, action is being taken to complete 1
Road Work and 6 Bridge Works. For the balance 4 bridge
works, tender will be floated to start execution in the
current year.

For the above works,
the NABARD has sanctioned loan assistance for Project cost
of Rs.126.24 Crores. The work of Construction of a high
level bridge between Vangal of Karur District and Mohanur
of Namakkal District across Cauvery River, is in progress.
The other works will be taken up on sanction of detailed
estimate and tenders will be floated to execute the works
in the current year.
Under this Scheme, an amount of Rs.38.86 Crores has been
earmarked for the year 2009-2010.
Formation of Radial / Ring
roads for important towns
The Government have
decided to form either Bypasses or Ring Road around
important towns where intensity of traffic is very high.
Inner Ring Road in Chennai City:
To ease the traffic
congestion in Southern Part of Chennai City, the
Government have accorded sanction for the formation of
Southern Sector of Inner Ring Road-Road branching from NH
45 at Km 14/1 to join at Km 13/4 of Old Mahabalipuram Road
for a length of 9.4 KM of which 4.40 KM was completed in
the First Phase.
In the Second Phase,
the formation of road to length of 5 KM is in progress. In
this stretch, the other Works will be completed in the
current year except the work of Construction of bridge
across Adambakkam Lake for which tender will be called for
and work will be started during this year.
During 2008-2009, an
expenditure of Rs.13.65 crores has been made for this
work.
In this Project, a
token amount of Rs.37,000 has been earmarked in the
current year. Allocation of additional fund will be
availed depending upon the progress of works.
Madurai Radial Road ( II phase):

The Government have
accorded sanction for formation of Radial Road in Madurai
City under CRIDP in Phase II for 14 Road Works to length
of 123.20 KM at a cost of Rs.70.60 Crores. In this
Project, formation of 11 roads to a length of 120.00 km
has been completed in the year 2008-2009 with an
expenditure of Rs.43.60 Crores. The balance 3 road works
will be completed by September 2009.
An amount of Rs.3.00 Crores has been earmarked in the year
2009-2010 for this Project.
Erode Outer Ring road :
In order to mitigate
the traffic congestion and thereby to ease and have
trouble free traffic in Erode Town, the Government have
accorded sanction for Rs.22.00 Crores as first phase
towards land acquisition for formation of road from
Kokkarayanpettai to Thindal to a length of 14.20 km and
Rs.35.00 Lakhs for the preparation of Detailed Project
Report through Consultants. Now, it is proposed to form
the road from Kokkarayanpettai to Karur junction for a
length of 2.20 km for Rs.4.00 Crores and High level Bridge
across Cauvery river for Rs.10.00 Crores.
Construction of River
bridges/ ROB under Tiruppur town improvement scheme.
To ease the heavy
traffic congestion in Tiruppur Town and surrounding areas,
the Government have accorded sanction for the improvement
of road infrastructure by formation of Ring Road involving
a total length of 98.60 KM, 2 Railway Over Bridges and 6
River Bridges at a cost of Rs.70.00 Crores. In this
Scheme, all Road Works are being executed by the Regular
Wing of Highways Department.
Out of 6 River Bridge
Works entrusted to Projects Wing, 1 Bridge Work has been
completed. All efforts are being taken to complete the
remaining 5 Bridge Works in the current year.

As regard to 2 Road
Over Bridges, the preparation of Detailed Project Report
for Chikkanna college ROB is in progress and Coolipalayam
ROB work is deleted in this scheme since it is taken up
under Railway works programme for which DPR is under
preparation.
Allocation of fund is
being availed for these works under CRIDP scheme.
Construction of River
Bridges with HUDCO loan assistance:
Under this Scheme,
the Government have accorded sanction for construction of
61 River Bridges at a cost of Rs.60.00 Crores. Out of
these Bridges, 52 Bridges have been completed and two
works were deleted. Out of balance 7 bridges , 2 Bridge
works will be competed in the current year and the action
will be taken to float the tenders for the balance 5
Bridge works so as to execute the works early.
A provision of
Rs.12.21 Crores has been made in the year 2009-2010 for
the works under this Project.
Construction of Bridges
under CMDP scheme(Chennai Metropolitan Development
Project)
Under CMDP scheme,
the works of Marmalong bridge Irumbuliyur road (MBI) grade
separator and Vyasarpadi ROB are being carried out by the
project wing and other works are carried out by the Chief
Engineer (H), Metro.

The MBI grade
separator work of value Rs.21.02 crores (RAS) will be
completed by September 2009.

The DPR for
Vyasarpadi ROB ( RAS amount Rs. 80.68 crores) prepared by
the consultant and under scrutiny by the Chief Engineer
(H) Designs and investigation. Meanwhile, the alternate
alignment in order to mitigate the L.A has been approved
by the steering committee and the proposal for
construction of the bridge in Satyamoorthy main road owned
by the corporation of Chennai has been sent to Chennai,
Corporation for concurrence.
Construction of Fly over at
Tirunelveli town near chellapandian statue :
The Government have
accorded sanction for construction of a Fly Over along
Tirunelveli Bypass near Chellapandian Staute at a cost of
Rs.16.40 Crores. The estimate for Rs.15.68 Crores has been
technically sanctioned and the work is in progress. A
budget provision of Rs.7.68 Crores has been made in the
year 2009-2010.
Sugarcane Road Development
Scheme:
The Cess Fund
collected from Sugar Mills are utilized for formation and
maintenance of roads from Sugarcane growing areas to Sugar
Mills. The Government have ordered that the maintenance of
these road would be carried out by the Regular Wing of
Highways Department.
78 road works have
been taken up under this Scheme. Of these, 66 Road Works
have been completed, 11 works have been deleted and the
balance 1 work will be completed during this year. An
expenditure of Rs.7.57 Crores has been incurred during the
year 2008-2009.
A provision of
Rs.10.00 Crores has been made in the year 2009-2010 for
the works under this Project.
